Whale Musuem hosts ‘pajama party’ — Pod Nod — for kids

Pod Nods are led by museum educators with assistance from other adults. Youth participants will learn to value whales and their environment through art projects, science labs, music, games, and the traditional flashlight tour of the exhibit hall.

Pod Nod overnight marine adventures return to The Whale Museum this summer.

Pod Nods feature “pajama party” sleepovers in the museum for children ages 6 to 10,  July 27 and Aug. 16.

New this summer is a special advanced Pod Nod on Aug. 10 for children ages 8 to 12.

Pod Nods are led by museum educators with assistance from other adults. Youth participants will learn to value whales and their environment through art projects, science labs, music, games, and the traditional flashlight tour of the exhibit hall.

The museum promises a high adult/child ratio and a whale of a good time. Each date will focus on a different theme. During ‘Myths and Legends’, July 27, participants will learn about some of the fun and interesting native myths surrounding local marine neighbors.

On Aug. 10, children ages 8 to 12 will learn what lives ‘Under the Salish Sea’.

They will have the chance to take part in a fun ‘pier peer’ where they will search for marine animals after dark at the Friday Harbor Marina using an underwater light.

The theme for Aug. 16 is ‘All About Orcas’, where participants learn about our local orca pods and celebrate the birthdays of baby whales from J and L Pods.

Each Pod Nod will begin at 6:30 p.m., with pick-up the next morning at 8:30 a.m. A bedtime snack and breakfast are included.

The cost is $39 for children/grandchildren of Whale Museum member; non-members is $49.  Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis.
