San Juan Singers return Dec. 10 and 11 with their holiday concert Christmas Miracles. This year’s concert features a performance of John Rutter’s Magnificat with the San Juan Island Winter Chamber Orchestra. A new work by John Rutter, Joseph’s Carol, and other seasonal favorites will round out this festive evening. The singers will be joined by guest performers Sound Vibrations and members of the Friday Harbor Presbyterian Bell Choir. There will be two opportunities to see this concert, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.
For a change of pace, join us for the streaming of The Metropolitan Opera’s production of Medea on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. Having triumphed at the Met in some of the repertory’s fiercest soprano roles, Sondra Radvanovsky stars as the mythic sorceress who will stop at nothing in her quest for vengeance. Joining Radvanovsky in the Met-premiere production of Cherubini’s rarely performed masterpiece is tenor Matthew Polenzani as Medea’s Argonaut husband, Giasone; soprano Janai Brugger as her rival for his love, Glauce; bass Michele Pertusi as her father, Creonte, the King of Corinth; and mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova as Medea’s confidante, Neris. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.
