United Way of San Juan County announces that more than $152,600 was raised during its 2009 campaign.
The money will help support 31 local programs providing essential services for individuals and families.
“We were able to give grants to agencies focusing on education, health and wellness, recreation, mentoring programs and services for seniors, just to name a few,” director Joy Goldberg said in a press release. “These programs benefit a wide array of island residents, from toddlers to seniors.
“The United Way would thank each of its donors for contributing so generously despite the difficult economic climate. Needs last year were higher than ever, and we expect that trend to continue.”
To reach the need of next year’s program requests, United Way has set a goal for the 2010 campaign at $250,000. To contribute time or resources to help United Way reach its goal, contact Goldberg at 378-4121 or unitedwaysjc@rockisland.com.
