The Town of Friday Harbor helped its customers jump-start their spring cleaning with free pickup of oversized refuse the week of April 23-27. This is the second year the town staff have offered a spring cleanup service to its refuse customers. Public Works employees Dave Smith and James Henrie picked up a total of 15.1 tons, or 30,200 pounds, of oversized junk too large to fit in standard garbage cans.
“Town staff is grateful to the mayor and town council for approving this courtesy service. The refuse employees did a great job on this event,” said Town Administrator Duncan Wilson. He said last year’s cleanup was very popular with the residents and he hopes they will be able to continue offering this on an annual basis as it helps keep the town looking its best.
“Once again our customers did a fantastic job of selecting acceptable items and neatly stacking them for pickup,” said Wilson, adding that he wants to thank everyone who helped make the spring cleanup successful.
