Thrill of the World lends the Friday Harbor Food Bank a hand

By Robert Rainier Spaulding

Saturday, Oct. 26 in a pre-Halloween scare, Brickworks was invaded by the living dead! It was the 9th annual Thrill the World “Simultaneous Worldwide Thriller Tribute” that raised funds for the local Friday Harbor food bank. Prizes for best costumes were awarded, and the thriller dance started at exactly 3 p.m. SHARP as it was an official worldwide event. The costumes were incredible to everyone who participated. Islanders were unrecognizable under all their makeup, it was a special thing to see.

Stacey Brown has been the person in charge each year and does an amazing job at making everything look spooky, getting all the logistics done and making sure everyone is just having a good time. She informed the Journal afterward that while they had not finished counting, they had already met their goal for the food bank and were very confident they had plenty to cover any costs they had to cover for an event like this.

These types of community events are important in a small town, it keeps us together in laughter and joy, and just a pinch (or a handful) of spookiness! Happy Halloween!
