The San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the recipients of its 7th Annual Hospitality/Business/Communications Scholarship, awarded to three Class of 2024 high school graduates.

Submitted by the San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau

Congratulations to Maria Magana-Navarro (Friday Harbor High School), Noah Rovente, (Friday Harbor High School), and Reese Tangney (Friday Harbor High School). A Visitors Bureau Committee selected them from an impressive group of applicants.

Maria is interested in communications and learning additional languages to the two she’s already fluent in – English and Spanish. Noah hopes to one day own an outdoor recreation-based business, catering to a client base that shares the same values as he does. Reese wants to major in business with a minor in psychology.

Although the Visitors Bureau makes a maximum of three scholarships available, one each to a student from the Orcas Island, Lopez Island and San Juan Island public high schools, we did not receive applications from Lopez or Orcas Island students this year.

The Visitors Bureau’s intention in awarding the scholarships is to recognize and thank students for working in our Islands’ visitor industry—especially during summer—helping to make experiences fun and memorable for our visitors from around the world, and who plan to pursue studies in sustainable tourism, hospitality, business, or communications.

We wish these students, and the others, the best of luck in their future endeavors, wherever the path may lead.
