The Golden Rule comes to Friday Harbor!

Submitted by event organizers

The peace boat Golden Rule will be at Friday Harbor Marina, and open to the public, all day Tuesday, Aug. 27. The Golden Rule is a special project of Veterans for Peace (VFP). Visitors can learn how this historic sailboat supports VFP’s opposition to nuclear weapons and war. A limited number of boat tours and harbor cruises will be available.

The Golden Rule sailed to the Marshall Islands in the 1950s, with its Quaker crew, led by retired WWII Navy Captain Albert Bigelow, in its mission to stop U.S. nuclear weapons testing. Decades later, members of VFP lovingly restored what had become a derelict vessel. It now sails on its mission to educate the public about nuclear, peace and environmental issues, and motivate people to take action.

Also, on August 27th, VFP will host an entertaining and educational gathering at Friday Harbor Yacht Club from 5 to 7pm.
