For almost 20 years, Just Heavenly Fudge and owners Natalie Wilson and MarJoe Davidson have been a staple in the center of Lopez Village. For many of those years, their booth at the San Juan County Fair satisfied the sweet tooth of hundreds of fair-goers with delicious chocolate products. Young adults often recall how, as children, the fudge booth was their favorite stop at the fair. No wonder they have a People’s Choice ribbon for Best Booth!
In 2021, during the early days of the COVID pandemic when small businesses were taking economic hits, Just Heavenly Fudge was one of the businesses chosen by Stephen Colbert and The Late Show for a “SmallbBizBump” – a two-minute commercial that extolled the yumminess of Wilson’s and Davidson’s confections. It was a ’bump’ that translated to 2,400 orders in one day.
“It took two months and an entire community of volunteers to fill the first wave of orders,” offered Wilson, “and it put Lopez and the San Juan Islands on the map for many people all over the country.”
When Davidson turned 87 in June, she decided it was time to slow down and take time to enjoy island life. So the skilled confectioners downsized their fudge business and closed the shop on Lopez. They did, however, continue to make and sell fudge on their website, and at the local farmers’ market.
After 15 years of holding their own at the County Fair, (they skipped last year for a variety of reasons), Just Heavenly Fudge is making one final appearance, but only for two days! Make it a point to stop by their booth for your chocolate fix on Thursday, August 15, and Friday, August 16 in the main building from 10:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Come by to say hello and goodbye, stock up on fudge, and make your day a “Fudgy day!”
