The fast-paced rhythms of Latin music come alive with Locarno at San Juan Community Theatre!
JUNO Award-winning musician Tom Landa brings his Latin-fusion band Locarno to San Juan Community Theatre on Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Locarno is an eight-piece band that includes drums, guitar, trumpet, trombone, the traditional guitar Jarama, and more.
Landa said he got into music at an early age. After learning a mere three chords, Landa began delving in and writing songs.
“I don’t know where that came from, the gumption of writing a song with only three chords,” he laughed.
Locarno’s music, sung entirely in Spanish, is a blend of Mexican, Cuban, and North American popular music delivered with an exuberant energy that will have the audience dancing in their seats. Landa is careful to add that Larcarno is not a Salsa band but influenced by Salsa, and other traditional Mexican music.
During the pandemic the group played online which made them realize what an amazing supportive community surrounded them.
“As lovely as online was, now that we are playing in rooms again, there is nothing compared to being in front of people, playing to people,” Landa said.
