For 15 years, Pearl Django has been sharing the groove of their Hot Club style across the divides of musical tastes.
And for the sixth time in those 15 years, they bring that eclectic musical recipe to the San Juan Community Theater on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Though still strongly influenced by the music of the late renowned European jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, the quartet’s repertoire now includes many original compositions. The band’s fervent followers include Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli fans, guitar enthusiasts (and guitarists), lovers of string music — including bluegrass devotees who relish nimble, clean, intricate picking — “world music” fans drawn to French and Gypsy accents, plus jazz buffs and aficionados of the new swing music.
With extensive touring and seven successful recordings to their credit (including 2007’s “Modern Times”), the ensemble is considered by Acoustic Guitar magazine as “one of the most capable and intelligent swing revival bands on either side of the Atlantic.” The business partner for the evening is KeyBank. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for student reserved, with $5 student RUSH one hour before the show if there are still seats available. The box office is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tickets may also be purchased online at www.sjctheatre.org.
