Martin’s play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, will be read in the Gubelman Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31 at 7:30 p.m.

This absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian café in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.

In his first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as he envisions these two geniuses musing on the century’s achievements and prospects. A high-spirited debate about the value of genius and talent ensues, with a host of colorful characters weighing in on the subject; and everyone gets a reality check from the “King of Rock and Roll” himself.

Directed by Susan Williams, the reading features Eric Concord, John Davis, James Gull, Deb Langhans, Dorian Oliver, Amy Hull, Tracy James, Doug Schirmer and Paul Walsh. Doors open at 7 p.m. with festival seating, free. For info, visit www.sjctheatre.org.
