The San Juan Islands Museum of Art invites children accompanied by an adult family member or friend to participate in its spring Family Art Days series. The eight art-making sessions will take place in the museum’s workshop on Saturdays from noon- 2 p.m. starting on April 8 and continuing through May 27. Francie Hansen will orchestrate the art activities for four of the sessions and guarantees fun and spontaneity. As an example, the first project on April 8 is “Bag Full of Surprises,” in which participants create an artwork from the items in a specially prepared bag. The four sessions offered by FAD art instructor Lana Hickman will include visits to the specific current exhibit that has inspired the project that she is offering on that Saturday. Her first session, on April 22nd, “Colorful Animal Heads in 3D,” takes its inspiration from George Rodriguez’ El Zodiaco Familiar, which is on display in the atrium.
The FAD workshops are free, but pre-registration is necessary. Go to sjima.org/familyartdays to sign up and to learn more details about the upcoming sessions.
