During the Town Council’s regular meeting Nov. 17, Mayor Ray Jackson proclaimed Nov. 26 Small Business Day.
The proclamation reads as follows:
Let’s Keep the Cheer Here!
Celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for the San Juan Islands!
WHEREAS, this year’s Friday Harbor Winterfest is an accumulation of events throughout the holiday season starting with Small Business Saturday, followed by the Island Artisan Fair, the Island Light Festival, the Old-Fashioned Christmas Market and a host of other family-oriented activities; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our economy and community; and
WHEREAS, local island businesses employ approximately 85 percent of the workforce across the private sector of San Juan County; and
WHEREAS, several organizations, including the Town, Chambers of Commerce County, EDC, Ports, Visitors Bureau, and the businesses themselves, actively partner in local initiatives and sponsor events designed to provide a more robust economy in the San Juan Islands; and
WHEREAS, on average $70 for every $100 stays in the community by shopping at local stores and participating in events;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Raymont C. Jackson, do hereby proclaim Nov. 26, 2022, as Small Business Saturday.
