“Shhh, can you keep a secret? The secret of gardening is gardening.”
An official Little Free Library from the Little Free Library Foundation will officially “open” its library door on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in the morning. The library is located just outside the Master Gardeners demonstration garden on Market Street and Nash.
Permission was granted for the installation by the Mullis Community Senior Center Board of Trustees in a unanimous vote. The MCSC owns the land on Market Street including the demonstration garden site, the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center and the Friday Harbor Food Bank sites. All of the above entities remain ever grateful for their long-term support. This new project continues their generous support for public outreach to all islanders.
The mission of this little free library is to provide books—“free to take; free to share”—on all things gardening, eating, cooking, composting, landscaping, and even weeding, with titles available for adults and children and similar topics in Spanish.
The corner of Market Street and Nash is a very busy island intersection and the Master Gardeners are confident their little free library will serve many interests and needs, perhaps inspiring library users to find their gardening passions.
This library project was fully funded by the Master Gardener Foundation Board of San Juan County.
