SeaDoc Society to hold virtual ‘Bottoms Up’ event Sept. 9

Submitted by SeaDoc Society.

The SeaDoc Society is going virtual again for their annual fundraiser event, which will be held on September 9 at 5:30 p.m. The special live event, Bottoms Up, will take viewers down to the seafloor and guide them through a year of marine science and education in the Salish Sea. To register, visit SeaDocSociety.org/BottomsUp.

“Our virtual fundraiser is a chance to showcase the important work that SeaDoc and our supporters have accomplished together over the last year,” said SeaDoc Society Regional Director Leigh Ann Gilmer. People make everything we do possible. We’re looking forward to an evening of science, education, and storytelling—and raising critical funding to heal the Salish Sea.”

Registration is $5, but SeaDoc is also offering a special wine package, which comes with two bottles of wine (Rosé Rustique from Coeur de Terre Vineyard and ded.rekoning Horse Heaven Hills Syrah from Compass Wines) and two custom SeaDoc Society rocks glasses (for $100). Order yours before Aug. 9 and SeaDoc will ship it directly to your house so that you can toast together the night of the event.

The live event will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 and will be hosted on Zoom. It will feature members of SeaDoc’s team, as well as other special guests — some of them live on screen — and others exploring under the sea.

The event will celebrate science-based work that has directly improved management, policy, and restoration efforts to protect the ecosystem for future generations. The SeaDoc Society is a donor-funded nonprofit organization that has been based on Orcas Island for more than two decades.

“SeaDoc is about people and science healing the sea,” said Science Director Joe Gaydos. “Donors are the fuel that feeds our science and education, and this is a fun way for all of us to come together, celebrate, and make the good work continue.”
