The demolition and construction phase of the long-awaited remodel and refurbishment of the Turnbull Gym locker rooms will begin on Wednesday, April 12. It is scheduled to be completed by the middle of August, as to not interfere with next year’s curriculum or sports schedules.

“We are looking forward to completing the Turnbull Gym Locker room remodel,” said Ralph Hahn, SJISD board chair. “The district is very thankful to the community for support for this project through the Capital and Technology Levy.”

After April 12, only the district’s weight training classes will have access to the gym’s weight room. Island Rec activities, usually scheduled for Turnbull Gym, will continue in Friday Harbor High School’s Hall Gym. Middle school and High school PE classes will also take place there, or outside during favorable weather. During bad weather, high school baseball and fastpitch practice take place in Hall Gym as well.

The Turnbull Gym remodel bid was awarded to H.B. Hansen Construction, Inc., from Lynden, Washington.
