Submitted by San Juan Island Fire and Rescue
According to sources close to Santa Claus, Santa really missed seeing the wonderful and always well-behaved children of San Juan Island. Some clever elves contacted San Juan Island Fire and Rescue requesting help, while allowing the reindeer to rest before their annual trip around the globe to deliver Christmas presents.
This Saturday, Dec. 19 Santa will be riding inside an SJIF&R fire truck and will make two loops around the Town of Friday Harbor and one loop around Roche Harbor.
Santa is excited and can’t wait to see you. Santa said he will be wearing a mask and will be in on the right-hand side of the fire truck facing the sidewalks. While COVD-19 prevents Santa from stopping to pose for photographs or to speak with children, he still very much wants to see you and wants everyone to be safe. The fire truck will move slowly on the routes below. Please stay on the sidewalk, or in your car to wave!
Friday Harbor: At 10 a.m., Santa will be riding on the following route – Mullis Street to Spring Street. All the way down Spring Street to the flag pole, back up Spring Street to the roundabout; down Nichols Street to B Street; B Street to Harrison Street and then Harrison (which becomes 1st Street) across Spring and up to Court Street.
Roche Harbor: At approximately 10:45 a.m., Santa will be riding on the following route – Roche Harbor Road at the Sculpture Park; up along Roche Harbor Road and down to Reuben Memorial Drive. Along the waterfront on Rueben Memorial Drive, looping around the grocery store and then back along Reuben Memorial Drive back to Roche Harbor Road.
Thank all of you for what you have done to keep our islands safe this year!
