The San Juan County Severe Weather Shelter will be available to open from 7 p.m.-7 a.m., Nov. 28-March 10, when overnight temperatures are forecasted to drop below 34 degrees Fahrenheit. When someone calls needing shelter and it’s forecasted to fall below 34 degrees, the shelter will open.
This year, two volunteers per night are needed. Trained volunteers from last year are free to sign up for position 1 or 2 and the steering committee approves the final schedule. The shelter can only open when two volunteers sign up for each night.
Volunteers will be paid $10 for every sign-up slot they fill, plus payment of an additional $75 for every overnight shift. For more information, visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f45aaa72eabf85-severe1.
