San Juan Community Theatre is excited to continue our “Season of Kindness” with an array of touring artists, mainstage shows, and education opportunities throughout 2022. In addition to our live shows, SJCT brings professional theatre to you–streamed in HD on the big screen in the Whittier – from the National Theatre, Metropolitan Opera, and Bolshoi Ballet. Ring in the new year with three more of these incredible performances. This month come listen to the extraordinary vocals in The Metropolitan Opera’s “Eurydice” on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m., or “Cinderella” on Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. If you prefer to enjoy a play, then National Theatre’s production of “A View from the Bridge” streaming on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. is the perfect choice for you.
These three contrasting shows will have you relishing in drama, laughing with eccentric characters, and sitting on the edge of your seat with suspenseful plot lines. If you enjoy history, check out “Eurydice,” which centers around “The ancient Greek myth of Orpheus, who attempts to harness the power of music to rescue his beloved Eurydice from the underworld.” This story “has inspired composers since opera’s earliest days. Rising American composer Matthew Aucoin now carries that tradition into the 21st century with a captivating new take on the story.”
If an intense plot involving dark secrets and betrayal is more your speed, check out “A View from the Bridge,” which tells the story of Brooklyn man Eddie Carbone who “welcomes his Sicilian cousins to the land of freedom. But when one of them falls for his beautiful niece, they discover that freedom comes at a price. Eddie’s jealous mistrust exposes a deep, unspeakable secret –one that drives him to commit the ultimate betrayal.”
Perhaps you prefer something more upbeat, with stunning costumes and lively music — then check out “Cinderella” and be immersed in the storybook kingdom where “Pandolfe, a country gentleman, has married Madame de la Haltière, an imperious countess. She and her daughters, Naomi and Dorothy, bully Pandolfe’s daughter from his first marriage — known as Cinderella” but in the end, everyone rejoices that love has triumphed. There is something for everyone in this month’s lineup for HD Streaming Shows!
