The Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Puccini’s romance Manon Lescaut is the next edition of The Met: Live in HD screened at San Juan Community Theatre on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 pm.

“Desperate passion” is the phrase Puccini himself used to describe the opera that confirmed his position as the preeminent Italian opera composer of his day.

Kristine Opolais sings the title role of the country girl who transforms herself into a Parisian temptress in this obsessive love story.  Roberto Alagna, a star at the Met for 20 years, makes his role debut as her ardent lover (original lead Jonas Kaufmann had to withdraw from the production due to illness).  The staging is conducted by Fabio Luisi, the Met’s Principal Conductor, and directed by Sir Richard Eyre.

Tickets for SJCT HD programs are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved.   Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions.  Tickets are available on-line at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
