With only three weeks left to go, Geno James bumped Marty Chevalier from the lead of the Frank Wilson Memorial fishing derby by landing the biggest fish seen so far in the tournament. A total of 17 fish were weighed in last week’s round of competition, including James’ 22.57-pounder.

San Juan Island’s Sam Buck will share insights and talk about his recently released book, “Believe Your Experience,” at an author showcase event, co-sponsored by Griffin Bay Bookstore and San Juan Island Library, Saturday.
Doors open at 5 pm. The event features beverages, appetizers, live music and silent and live auction items. Tickets raffle items will be available for sale.
Bellingham-based author JoAnn Roe explores the San Juans’ more recent history in her latest work, “The San Juan Islands: Into the 21st Century.” Roe will be at Harbor Bookstore to talk about and to autograph her book from 2-4 p.m.
Billed as “Walk the Port” (airport to boat harbor), the walk is March 24, 1-4 p.m. Port Director Marilyn O’Connor will lead the walk and describe airport history, sprinkled by the area’s local color.
Turner has incurred extensive medical bills as a result of a sudden onset of a neurological disorder and resulting treatment.
Settle in and expect the unexpected. New Old Time Chautauqua’s traveling troupe of talented entertainers, featuring the Flying Karamasov Brothers, will hit the stage at San Juan Community Theatre for back-to-back performances, Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
James Alexander DeMuth, son of Dennis Alden and Jodie Lynn DeMuth, of Friday Harbor and Bellevue, and Leah Christinne Reid of New Hampshire will exchange marriage vows in August.
