Next up in the Whale Museum summer lecture series is “Seabirds 101: Flight and Other Adaptions for Life at Sea”, presented by Breck Tyler of the UC Santa Cruz and U of W Friday Harbor Labs.

Tyler, with a resume that includes more than 35 years of study of conservation of seabirds and marine mammals, oversees programs to monitor seabird and marine mammals and reduce harm to these populations in the event of an oil spill.

Tyler, a visiting professor at Friday Harbor Labs, where he currently teaches a course on marine bird and mammal biology, treks to Midway Atoll each winter to study nesting albatrosses.

He also teaches a research apprenticeship course at the Labs each fall focused on marine life in San Juan Channel.
