Hawaii’s super group, Hapa, comes to San Juan Community Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, bringing the sounds of their islands to ours for the first time.
Hapa features founder Barry Flanagan and sing-songwriter Ron Kuala’au. The duo recently played itself on the popular CBS series, Hawaii Five-O, in an episode that saw more than 17 million viewers
Flanagan is a prolific and award-winning composer and performer. Hapa’s first release in 1994 remains the number one selling recording by a group or duo in the history of recorded Hawaiian music.
The two musicians met in the 1980s in Maui.
“Ron was one of my first Hawaiian music teachers and one of the main influences on the “Hapa sound” that we found in the 1980s,” said Flanagan.
