Born at 7:40 p.m., Jan. 10, Logan Olivia Long was the first baby born in San Juan County in the new year. She is also the first grandchild on both sides of her family, according to her parents, Michael and Courtney Long.
“The people at Island Hospital in Anacortes have been just amazing, everyone has been so friendly and helpful,” Michael said, adding that the pregnancy and delivery went smoothly.
Logan weighs 6 pounds and 10 ounces and is 18 inches long. The parents are both awestruck by their baby girl but had no comments on parenthood at this point.
“It’s just all too new,” they said from Island Hospital.
The Longs are expected to return home Jan. 12 after a few additional tests to ensure mother and baby were ready.
The couple dated for several years before marrying in October of 2016 at Brickworks in Friday Harbor.
Michaels parents, Kirk and Peggy Long, have lived in the islands about 10 years. The Longs are volunteer firefighters, avid boaters and divers. Michael works at the port as assistant harbormaster, so boating runs in Logan’s blood. Islanders also may recognize Courtney as the manager of Ace Hardware. Her parents, Jeannette Kearse from Everett, Washington, and Todd Accetturo, from Mt. Vernon, Washington, as well as the expecting parents, were able to be at Island Hospital to welcome Logan into the world.
“We are so excited, couldn’t be happier,” Michael said.
As the first baby of the year, the young family will receive $500 in gift certificates from businesses including the Friday Harbor Drugstore, Browne’s Home Center, Ace Hardware, Pebble, San Juan Island Food Co-op, Kings, The Toybox, Harbor Rental and Saw Shop, Sea-Cure Fire Extinguisher Services, Islanders Bank, Petro San Juan, San Juan Propane and Friday Harbor Dentistry.
