Janelle Harstead and Travis Berwald of Friday Harbor will marry Oct. 24 at Tazer Valley Farms in Stanwood.

They have been dating for about 5 years 9 months and moved to the San Juan Islands in July 2007. “Travis and I had met playing indoor soccer and then continuously and purposely ran into each other,” the bride-to-be said.

The groom-to-be proposed in Leavenworth on Dec. 1, 2007, just as the town was being illuminated with Christmas lights for its famous annual Christmas light celebration.

“We love it here and plan on raising a family here on the island,” the bride-to-be said. “We are excited to start our life together and build our family.”
