Island Haven Animal Sanctuary raising money for Veterinary Care and Medications for Sanctuary Animals

Submitted by Island Haven Animal Sanctuary

Island Haven cares for equines and farmed animals whose owners no longer can, we are their last chance. Most of our sanctuary animal residents are older and have ongoing health issues that require frequent veterinary care and medications to keep them healthy as possible and comfortable as they live out their lives with the companionship of their friends.

Providing excellent veterinary care and medications for our fifty-two sanctuary residents is costly. We have invested over $7,000 already this year and expect to double that by years end. Lack of funds for veterinary bills and medications are a limiting factor for accepting new animals, which creates a hardship in our community when there is nowhere else for these animals in need to live.

Island Haven is raising money for this project as part of the San Juan Island Community Foundation’s SJI Cares San Juan County Fair 2024 Campaign. Through this program, the first $1,000 in donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Community Foundation. To be eligible for matching funds, donations to Island Haven’s Veterinary Fund must be made during the four days of the 2024 County Fair– Aug. 15–18. Donors can contribute in person at the SJICF fair booth, online at sjicares.org, by phone to SJICF at 360-378-1001, or by mailing a check payable to SJICF (dated between Aug. 15–18) with Friday Harbor Island Haven in the memo line to P.O. Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

Established in 2015, Island Haven Animal Sanctuary’s mission is to provide lifetime care for equines and farmed animals who, while still able to lead a quality life, are unable to find homes due to disabilities or chronic or age-related illnesses. To learn more, visit www.islandhaven.org.
