In focus: the fine art of taking art photos revealed

Learn the ins and out of photographing your art as part of a full-day workshop

For any artist, making the most out of visual representation of your art can mean a lot. But how does one capture just the right image, organize those you have, and best prepare them for distribution — file size, prints, copyrights, output — to shows, editors, publicists and for whatever opportunity might come along?

Renowned local photographer Mark Gardner surely has the answer.

Learn the ins and out of photographing your art as part of a full-day workshop entitled, “Photographing Your Art”, Sept. 28, at Orcas Island Library, 10 am to 6 p.m. Led by Gardner, an island-based professional photographer for nearly two decades, the workshop will feature techniques of clarity, color, dimension, and focus on the use of images in marketing, such as brochures, business cards, websites and promotional pieces. Fee is $50.

Owner and operator of a fully equipped studio in Friday Harbor, Gardner may best known for his photographs of people for portraits, but he also shoots art and craft, classic and sports cars, architecture and the natural world, and has created a long list of fine-art prints, coffee table books, and digital slide shows, and more.
