The Friends of the Library presents the annual tradition of their Holiday Sale. During this time, Islanders enjoy gathering to stock their bookshelves for the winter, socialize and talk about books. It is a proud island tradition that earns money for the library community projects.
The Holiday Sale will begin at the San Juan Island Library, 1010 Guard St. at 10 a.m. on Dec 2. There will be books of every genre, audiobooks, DVD’s, jigsaw puzzles, fun Treasure Cove jewelry, book items and, if none of that was enticing enough, there will be ice cream. An added special event this year is a silent auction for part of the library’s permanent art collection. Give art a new home by bidding on a favorite piece from this curated collection.
The Art Committee hangs five shows a year, enlivening the library for visitors, volunteers and staff. The show coming in time for the holidays is GOOD EATS!, reflecting the tasty meals, confections, comfort food and celebrations of winter. The show goes up on Saturday, Dec. 9. The public is always invited to bring in ready-to-hang art. Bring your theme-related art to the library from 10 a.m. to noon. All skill levels are welcome. The current show, Perfect Portraits, includes artists aged five to 85 displaying 45 pieces for your enjoyment. If you have any questions about the art exhibit or the Library Art Committee, contact Diane Martindale at 360-370-5814. Library cards are free of charge to islanders with proof of residency. In addition to its collections of materials to loan, the library also provides public access to computers and WiFi. Library hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
