Holiday happenings this season

There are several activities for holiday revelers to enjoy in Friday Harbor this year. There are still four more days left of Island Stage Left’s “Omnium Gatherum” and a few events as well. Here is the rundown:

Tuesday, Dec. 20 through Saturday, Christmas Eve, Dec. 24

Island Stage Left’s annual “Omnium Gatherum” at the San Juan County Fair’s Marie Boe building, 7 p.m., Dec. 20-23 and 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Christmas Even, Dec. 24, free/by donation. One of the island’s most popular holiday traditions, “Omnium Gatherum,” meaning a gathering of all, is a collection of seasonal stories, poetry and music.

Using the Danish traditional concept of “hygge” or, the coziness of the soul,” it is the reason that Danes are known for being the happiest people in the world. Hygge incorporates gathering of friends, candlelight, homespun music, warm drinks and telling stories by the fire. “Come alone, with friends and/or family and be prepared to laugh, reminisce and celebrate!,” according to Island Stage Left’s website about the event. Reservations are strongly recommended for the Christmas Eve performances; please call 378-5649 or email stageleft@centurytel.net.
