This 2023 Fair season, Alchemy Art Center is one of 30 organizations featured in the San Juan Island Community Foundation’s Matching Grant Program! Alchemy’s fundraising goal of $9,500 will help Alchemy serve more islanders by improving physical access to our pottery studio! We are raising funds to:
Replace four old, hard-to-use wheels with smooth-running new ones
Install leg extensions on one wheel for folks who cannot be seated while throwing
Install a strong-arm wheel tool to help more people with a wider range of mobility work independently on the pottery wheel
“We are so grateful to be included in this wonderful fundraising opportunity provided by the Community Foundation! Funds raised through this program will go far in helping Alchemy expand physical accessibility in our community studio, as part of our mission to provide arts access to islanders. We feel very lucky to be part of such an incredible community!”
Alchemy is raising money for this project as part of the San Juan Island Community
Foundation’s 2023 County Fair Giving Campaign. Through this program, the first $1,000 in donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Community Foundation. Alchemy is also eligible for up to $2,500 in bonus grants awarded throughout the fair.
To be eligible for matching funds, donations to Alchemy must be made during the four days of the 2023 County Fair – Aug. 16–19. Donors can contribute in person at the SJICF fair booth, online at www.sjicf.org/fair, by phone to SJICF at 360-378-1001, or by mailing a check payable to SJICF (dated between Aug. 16–19) with Alchemy Art Center in the memo line to P.O. Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. The Community Foundation will grant the raised funds to Alchemy following the County Fair.
Alchemy Art Center, founded by Maria Michaelson and Eben Shay in 2017, is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to creating a thriving arts community on San Juan Island.
