Submitted by the San Juan Island School District.
Friday Harbor High School art students Savannah House and Mila Jackson have been recognized as two of the 15 winners in the Northwest Educational Service District 189 Regional High School Art Competition. Their selection is an impressive achievement, given the more than 170 submissions from students across the region, including those from much larger 4A high schools.
The NWESD competition is part of the prestigious Superintendent’s High School Art Show, an annual event co-hosted by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington Art Education Association. High school artists from all nine of Washington’s educational service districts compete for the opportunity to showcase their work at the statewide competition. As regional winners, House and Jackson will now advance to the 2025 OSPI Superintendent’s High School Art Show, taking place on May 14 at 10 a.m. at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia. The event will also be live-streamed at youtube.com/@waOSPI.
FHHS Visual Art Instructor Andrew Anderson praised the students’ dedication and creativity, stating:
“I’m incredibly proud of House and Jackson for this well-deserved recognition. Their talent, hard work, and artistic vision have placed them among the top high school artists in Washington State. I have no doubt they will make a strong impression at the state competition in Olympia.”
Congratulations to House and Jackson on this outstanding achievement!
