On the Feb. 13 Special Election, San Juan Island School District #149 Proposition No. 1 – Capital Levy For School Facilities & Technology received a majority of votes in favor of the levy. Of the roughly 1800 votes, 75.84% said “yes” to the levy. Orcas Island School Dist #137 Proposition No. 1 – School Programs and Operations Replacement Levy also received a majority of votes in favor of the levy, with 75.57% of the 1,225 votes saying “yes” to the levy.
“It’s heartening to see people come together to ensure that the necessary resources are available for maintaining the facilities and technology of the San Juan Island School District,” said Fred Woods, Superintendent of San Juan Island School Distrct. “The continued commitment to investing in education reflects the dedication to these students in addition to the well-being and growth of the community as a whole. I am extremely grateful for the support, and from all of us here at SJISD, I want to say thank you for making this a great place to live and learn.”
Superintendent of Orcas Island School District Eric Webb also gave a comment to the Journal: “I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the voters of Orcas Island for your support of our school levy,” said Webb. “Your levy dollars will be used thoughtfully and deliberately with our students’ best interest at heart to maintain the level of education and opportunities that you have come to expect at Orcas Island School District. We recognize that our local community supports students not only with the passage of this levy but also with parental involvement, volunteerism, and community attendance at sporting events, concerts, and other student activities. We are humbled by the support we receive from you year after year!”
