English Language classes returning to the San Juan Island Library this fall

Submitted by the San Juan Library

The San Juan Island Library would like to offer its heartfelt gratitude to the San Juan Island Community Foundation for their support of the Library’s English Language Learning program. The Community Foundation’s generous grant from donors including the Women’s Fund of the San Juan Island Community Foundation and The Thistledown Fund, a fund of Catherine Eaton Skinner and David Skinner, means that adult learners of English will have their own workbooks, engaging reading materials, and basic supplies. Thank you!

Knowing early in the summer that the Library is able to purchase books and supplies for the fall makes it confident that the next school year will be an impactful one for adult learners of English and their children. To that end, the San Juan Island Library is excited to announce the official return to in-person English language classes for adults beginning Tuesday, Sept. 24. There is no cost for classes, which will take place in the Library Meeting Room from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Dec. 19.

Students of all English proficiency levels are welcome and will receive individual workbooks and learning materials, funded in part by grants from the San Juan Island Community Foundation. A children’s enrichment program will be offered for children 4 years and older. Volunteer English tutors will support students’ success in class, and volunteers will receive free online training prior to participating in classes.
