One of opera’s classics makes its way to Friday Harbor via The Met: Live in HD program.

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will be screened at San Juan Community Theatre (SJCT) on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.

Featuring comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements, the opera — based on the legend of Don Juan — was first premiered by the Prague Italian opera in 1787. In the 2016 version, Simon Keenlyside makes his Met role debut as the unrepentant seducer in Tony Award winner Michael Grandage’s staging.

Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leads a cast that includes Hibla Gerzmava as Donna Anna, Malin Byström as Donna Elvira, Serena Malfi as Zerlina, Adam Plachetka as Leporello, Matthew Rose as Masetto, Kwangchul Youn as the Commendatore, and Rolando Villazón in his Live in HD debut as Don Ottavio.

In addition to The Met: Live in HD presentations, SJCT also rebroadcasts National Theatre Live productions from Great Britain, and ballets from Bolshoi Only In Cinemas. SJCT’s HD partnerships were made possible through a generous bequest from the late Dodie Gann and underwriting by the McGee Foundation.

Tickets for “Don Giovanni” are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved. Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions. Tickets are at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
