Dogs find homes after story in Islands’ Sounder | One still available

Two animals highlighted in the July 31 Sounder story “Dogs rescued from Asia in need of forever homes” have found new families.

Toby was discovered tied up outside, severely abused and neglected, and about to be sold to the slaughterhouse three years ago in Korea. He was rescued and brought to the United States by the Jindo Love network, a group of volunteers focused on the dog meat trade. A woman on Camano Island saw Toby’s photo in the Sounder and contacted her son, who she thought would be interested in him. She was right.

“He has a young newfy, Hank, who met Toby, and the two large boys had a fun run around,” said Orcas Islander Tracy Harachi, who rescues dogs and cats from Asia and helped facilitate Toby’s adoption.

Harachi brought back 4-year-old Pepsi from the Elephant Nature Park in northern Thailand this past November. The 150-acre sanctuary is home to 500 dogs and more than 40 elephants. Pepsi has now also gone to a new family on the mainland.

“They will be a great match, as Pepsi is so people-centric,” Harachi said.

Eight-year-old Jacky, who was born during the Bangkok floods in 2011, is still available for adoption. She is currently being fostered in Seattle. To find out more about Jacky, email Harachi at tsea321@gmail.com.
