Singer and songwriter Dana Lyons is best known for his dynamic performance and outrageous hit songs, “RV,” “Ride the Lawn,” and “Cows With Guns.”
Hear Lyons sing his greatest hits and newest songs at the San Juan Island Library on Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m. to kick off the summer events at the library.
The library is sponsoring this musical evening as part of its Summer Reading Program. The theme for the program this summer is One World, Many Stories.
The Friends of the Library sponsors a program where children, teens and adults earn prizes for summer reading.
Children can visit the library to pick up treats.
Teens have a program tailored to their unique needs.
Adults can enter their name in the weekly drawing for free books from the Treasure Cove store.
Everyone can enjoy Lyons and his music.
The performer’s song “Cows With Guns” was a global radio and web hit, number one for the year on Dr. Demento, number two on the Australian Country charts, and number one in Seattle, and spent six months in the Irish Top 40.
He has also written two books, “Cows With Guns” and “The Tree.”
He has eight releases to date, including his latest, Three Legged Coyote, released in November 2009.
Lyons has toured in 46 of the 50 American states, around the East Coast of Australia and across Ireland, England, New Zealand, Mexico, Kazakhstan, and Siberia.
His policy of “I’ll play anywhere once” has landed Lyons gigs on a tropical island in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, an Irish pub in Beijing, China, and the Hanford Nuclear Waste site is his home state of Washington.
The singer was born in Kingston, N.Y. He graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.
According to his website, he lives in a nice garage in Bellingham, Wash., with his cat Oliver.
