San Juan Island’s Rob Michaan was a retired boat captain who produced several documentaries. His latest work “Cut Poison Burn” is premiering Friday, July 8, 7 p.m. at the San Juan Community Theatre.
Michaan’s film centers on the Navarros, a family struggling to save their young son from cancer.
According to the documentary’s website the “thought-provoking documentary takes on the forces that have conspired to thwart meaningful advances in cancer research and treatment over the past century.”
The documentary was shot over the span of 12 years and 150 hours of footage and interviews with top oncologists, researchers, policy-makers, homeopaths and patients carry the story and reveal that we are on the brink of disaster and in desperate need of reform when it comes to cancer research and treatment.
On this project, Michaan worked with playwright Louis Peter Cimino, Emmy award winning director Wayne Chesler, accomplished actor, author, director and narrator, Peter Coyote, and the plight of Donna and Jim Navarro and their son, Thomas.
So watch this heart-wrenching and informative documentary this week in Friday Harbor.
