The black and white sketches match or exceed the quality of those on display at the top art museums in the nation, and some even offer a social message that needs no curator to explain.

That’s “the buzz” about the current exhibition of art at San Juan Islands Museum of Art, a presentation of work by students enrolled at Friday Harbor High School’s advanced art program. It’s also the first annual Friday Harbor High School Invitation hosted by IMA, 232 A Street, Friday Harbor.

“IMA is beyond proud to host this first annual friday harbor high school invitational exhibition and looks forward to this annual event,” IMA President Bo Turnage said.

Only two days are left for viewing the exhibit, however, as its scheduled to close Friday, Jan. 18. IMA will host a reception to honor student artists and their instructor, Andy Anderson, on the closing day of the exhibit, Friday, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The museum encourages the public, especially local artists, to attend the reception as a show of support.

Through targeted fundraising efforts, IMA contributes ongoing support for the high school art program.
