Concours d’Elegance raises money to help support Hospice of San Juan
Classic car lovers, unite.
The Sports Car Club of the San Juan Islands’ annual Concours d’Elegance is Sept. 14, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at San Juan Vineyards, 3136 Roche Harbor Road.
Entry for the general public is free, although a voluntary tax-deductible contribution of $10 is encouraged. The Concours is a charitable event with the proceeds going to Hospice of San Juan for training of volunteers.
Concourse d’Elegance is a chance for everyone to view a collection of rare and unique automobiles in a beautiful setting and, at the same time, help a worthwhile island service.
Madden Surbaugh of Steps Wine Bar and Cafe will offer lunch for $15 a person.
Want to enter your car? Entry fee is $30, which includes an entrance donation for two people. A fee of $10 will be charged for each additional car entered.
The Concours is also a judged event, with categories such as vintage sports cars, antique autos, and novelty autos. Last year’s event, which drew 70 entrants, featured a pair of Ford GT sports cars, a 1926 Cadillac limousine, and a custom-built three-quarter scale functioning diesel 18-wheel truck (the “Betterbuilt”) belonging to the island’s David Spurgeon.
The Porsche Club of America Northwest Region will assist in the judging. It is anticipated that this year’s event will have 100 entrants.
The featured marque will be the Porsche.
There are several sponsors for the event, including Barrier Motors of Seattle and Griot’s Garage.
A welcoming dinner for the Concours weekend, benefiting the Medical Center Guild, will be held on Sept. 13 at the San Juan Island Yacht Club. The evening will start at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host bar, hors d’oeuvres and piano music by David Bayley.
Dinner at 7 p.m. includes a salad, your choice of salmon or prime rib with accompaniments, followed by San Juan Island blackberry cobbler. The price for dinner is $45 and reservations are recommended.
A reservation can be downloaded from www.sanjuanconcours.org or call 378-4224.
