In usual Comedy of Errors fashion, the first week of performances for the classic Shakespearean play produced by Island Stage Left must shutter its stage due to COVID.
Two cast members tested positive for COVID just one day before the curtains were to rise on this farcical comedy. While this is tragic news for the production company, ironically the timing of this could have been written by Shakespeare himself if he were still alive.
Director Helen Machin-Smith feels terrible for all involved, as the cast and crew have put in untold thousands of hours preparing this theatrical feast for the public. “I feel terrible for our cast. We’ve been so careful, testing twice a week and taking everybody’s temperature daily.”
Island Stage Left’s production of “Comedy of Errors” is scheduled to run through Aug. 14, and Machin-Smith remains optimistic they will finish out the run of the show beginning next week. “We’re hopeful next week we’ll be back, but we’ll just have to see.”
