The Mullis Community Senior Center was decked out to celebrate the 100 birthday of long-time community member Dorothy Martyn on Dec. 10. Family members and friends gathered from 1-4 p.m. to honor her. Even Mayor Ray Jackson was present to congratulate the centenarian and proclaim Dec. 10 and Dorothy Martyn Day.
“A hundred years is a very long time but goes by in the blink of an eye… All the experience in a century, that you’ve done, and you’ve seen, I can only imagine.” Jackson said, before reading the proclamation.
Noting that Martyn had lived through 17 different presidents let alone seen drastic social, political and technological changes all of which have shaped every facet of today’s world, the proclamation stated “Whereas Dorothy Martyn has lived during one of the most eventful centuries of this nation’s history, and in her quiet way has been a force for good and stabilizing influence for those around her… Dec. 10, 2023, is proclaimed Dorothy Martyn Day.”
