A car accident took place on Nov. 2 at 3:49 p.m. in the Roche Harbor and Westcott Bay road area.
A woman driving north on Roche Harbor Road swerved over the center line causing a dump truck to veer off road and turn on its side. While the dump truck driver is reported to be uninjured the truck did make contact with the car causing extensive damage to the driver side. The 70-year-old female driver was flown off island due to her injuries.
“She was actually very lucky the dump truck driver was paying attention and was able to react,” said San Juan County Undersheriff Zac Reimer, adding that she is in a stable condition. The incident is still being investigated.
“The sheriff’s office believes alcohol was a factor, so we are looking into possible charges,” Reimer said.
If and what charges will be filed will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
