The forests of Turtleback Mountain tell a story.

That story, according to forester and restoration ecologist Carson Sprenger, is one rooted in geology, first peoples, settlement, industry and conservation.

Carson will illustrate that story and the relationship between big, old and old growth as part of an interpretive walk through Turtleback’s north woods on Orcas Island, Saturday, July 13.

The hike, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.(including lunch break), will span 4-5 miles roundtrip, with an elevation gain of about 800 feet, and proceed at a leisurely pace.

Meet at Turtleback’s North Trailhead parking lot, off Crow Valley Road. To bring: water, lunch, binoculars and trail-appropriate footwear.
