BBC Radio 4 reporter Andrew Luck-Baker spent time with local whale researchers this summer to report on Tucker, a black Labrador trained to help researchers whale scat for study. Tucker is part of an elite team of detection dogs used by scientists studying a number of species, including right whales and killer whales. Researchers are using his nose to help them learn more about why the local killer whale population is in decline. See the BBC’s multimedia report here.
