Submitted by Griffin Bay Bookstore

Griffin Bay Bookstore is sponsoring an author talk with Northwest author Patricia Alarcon Missler featuring her new novel, BORDER TOWN CHICA: A MEMOIR on Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. in the bookstore café. Border Town Chica paints colorful stories of a young girl growing up in a small south Texas border town. Join the author as a six-year-old picking out a special pastry, and as a young woman

picking out a special boyfriend. A trip to the racetrack with Papi. Bandidos on the road. Two sisters on their own in Mexico City. Share the camaraderie and adventures of her “familia” and friends. Insightful, humorous—at times intimately personal—and inspiring.

in her a deep respect for her cultural roots. Missler graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in sociology and a minor in English. For many years she gathered with like-minded

writers at the Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo, HI. While still living in Hawaii, Patricia wrote and first published her memoir.

“It has always felt natural to write about my feelings and thoughts. I have more stories and poems I hope to publish in the future.”

“A life-changing move to the PNW is an exciting time of reinvention, enabling me to expand the vision of my own artist’s journey. The literary support in my community prompted this revised

edition of my memoir. It now comes to you, a decade later, with a makeover. The redesigned book cover is fresh, energized, and artistic.”

A brief discussion will follow the reading. Copies of Missler’s novel will be on sale, and she will be happy to dedicate individual copies.
