Author Talk: Kay Smith Blum reads from ‘Tangles’

Submitted by Griffin Bay Books

Griffin Bay Bookstore is sponsoring an author talk with Kay Smith-Blum, featuring her new novel, “Tangles” on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. in the bookstore café. “Tangles” tells the story of a brash young scientist working to prove the connection between endangered sea life and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. When a dead whale washes up at the mouth of the Columbia River, he sets out to make the connections between the waste produced during the development of the atomic bomb and the effects on downstream biology. His work ends up a parallel to data collected and suppressed during the 1940s, and it turns out his personal history is also entangled with the Manhattan Project. “Tangles” is a love story wrapped in a mystery and a read for our times. Griffin Bay Bookstore is located at 155 Spring Street., Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
