Arbor Day is April 12

Submitted by The Town of Friday Harbor

In honor of Arbor Day, April 12, the town issued a proclamation honoring the day. The proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska and is now observed throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal and host a multitude of benefits for people, wildlife, and the environment; and

WHEREAS, the Town is honored and enthusiastic to be recognized for its seventh year as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation and desires to continue its tree-planting practices;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Raymont C. Jackson, do hereby proclaim,

Friday, April 12, 2024 Arbor Day in the Town and call upon the residents of Friday Harbor and our neighbors throughout San Juan County to promote the well-being of this and future generations by supporting efforts to plant, care and protect our woodlands.
