Their grandchildren are Zachary Hoisington, Wendy Elizabeth Areus (who was married in Hawaii on her grandparent’s anniversary last year), David Payne, Jared Payne, William Payne and Jacub Bly.

Their great-grandchildren are Brandon Payne and Mitchell Payne.

The Hoisingtons met while in high school; David was a friend of Elizabeth’s brother.

Once, David went to his friend’s house for dinner and Elizabeth had made brownies – for him, although he didn’t know that.

She remembers that when he reached for a brownie, his hand touched hers. They became high school sweethearts.

The Hoisingtons were married by Dr. Luke White on Sept. 14, 1940 in St. Luke’s Episcopalian Church in Montclair, N.J.

During his career, Mr. Hoisington was a professor of electrical engineering at the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Mrs. Hoisington was a real estate agent for 40 years.

Asked about her 68th wedding anniversary plans, Mrs. Hoisington said she planned to make brownies.
