Submitted by the San Juan Island Lavender Festival
The 17th Annual San Juan Island Lavender Festival is from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., July 21 and 22 at Pelindaba Lavender Farm at 45 Hawthorne Lane in Friday Harbor.
Participants can tour the entire process – from the field to finished product. The fields are open for strolling, relaxing and breathtaking photo opportunities. The cutting field is also open for visitors to harvest their own bouquets of certified organic lavender from the many varieties in bloom.
Demonstrations cover topics such as lavender cultivation, harvesting, essential oil distillation, history and uses, cooking with lavender and more. The craft tent is open all day long in the fields for adults and children to make beautiful wands, wreaths, crowns and more.
Local lavender ice cream, lavender lemonade, lavender cookies and lavender iced tea and coffee are always big hits. Island-style picnic lunches and local libations will be available.
Local artists will have their work on display and for sale in the fields. Local musicians will serenade attendees throughout the day and Lavendera Massage will provide relaxing treatments amongst the flowers.
Bring sunscreen and a camera. Parking and admission are free. Dogs are welcome on leashes.
