Hospice of San Juan would like to thank the San Juan Island Community Foundation and the Women’s Fund for awarding us a grant for our Spring 2010 Training. Without this funding, we would find it very difficult to train our volunteers.
We have just completed our 2010 training, which was held at the Friday Harbor House San Juan Room. PeaceHealth made it possible for Whatcom Hospice trainers to come here and provide us with two days of training. We received two days of very instructive learning on what it means and how to become a Hospice volunteer, as well as providing us with excellent material for our training manuals. As a result of this training, we have six more trained volunteers.
On the second weekend, we were honored to have some of our local professionals come and speak to us about occupational health and safety, body mechanics, physical signs, spiritual care, grief and bereavement, dementia, and self care. We want to thank publicly Rosalie LeVee, Jim Cole, Suzie LeFever, Julia Thompson, Sandy Harold, Stacey Harmon-Hart, Rev. Meg Davis, Dr. Joe Bettridge, Curt VanHyning, Betsy Dayton, and David Bentley.
We want to thank our community for the support you continue to give to us. Hospice of San Juan remains an all-volunteer organization. We host a grief support group at Mullis Center every Monday at 6 p.m. We continue to maintain our storage unit with equipment that is available by loan to anyone in the community who is in need. We currently have 20 volunteers serving the needs of our community during this very important time in people’s lives.
We continue to be grateful for your support, donations and grants.
Thank you.
